So the MSU student body was told by the Student Government Association, as well as the Programming Board that Nicki Minaj would be performing at our Fall Fest 2010 on October 08th. Students were so excited and determined to get their tickets, that many of them camped out overnight outside where the tickets were sold today at 8:30am. Since we were told that we would be allowed to bring guests, there were also people who don't go to MSU camping out too. While on my way to class this morning, I saw the extremely long line and decided that AIN'T NO WAY i'm waiting in it and missing class to pay 20 bucks to see Nicki Minaj, though I think her verses are sick.
So I'm sitting in class tweeting about the line, when I saw the following tweets from Nicki Minaj:
Apparently, the school booked Nicki through a fake agency who stole approximately $35,000 of our money! We got S C A M M E D. Yet, even with knowledge of this news, people still stood in that line with hopes that Nicki's agency had not yet informed her about the concert and she is still scheduled to perform. Others on the other hand, demanded a refund. I feel bad for the people who waited hours in that line hoping to get a golden ticket *shakes head* The SGA has given Nicki's camp the name of the fake promoter and agency and she psoted it on her twitter, suggesting legal action.
WOW-my college became a hot topic on twitter and the internet in general in a matter of minutes. MTV even posted an article about this scam, as well as other music websites like billboard.com who's got us confused with Michigan State University >.< I hope they catch that asshole scam artist and throw him in jail! Stealing from struggling college students? Really? SHAME! And apparently, we are not the only University that got scammed.

Throwback: Oops (Oh My) - Tweet
I was 12 years old when this song came out, and I used to be singing it like there's no tomorrow, not having a clue what she meant, lol.

Behind The Scenes of "We Are The World Video" Remake
In an effort to help rebuild the country of Haiti after the devastating 7.0 earthquake, today's musical artists including Pink, Akon, Lil Wayne, and Justin Beiber have come together to perform the remake of the 1985 "We Are The World" song. I love this song and the 1985 behind the scenes footage, so I was thrilled when I heard that some of the artists that I listen to today are adding their touch to it, for a good cause. Michael would be so proud. It will premier tomorrow night during the opening of the Olympics. Peep the video below.
Rihanana: Rude Boy
I NEVER thought that I'd do a post focused on Rihanna. Granted, Ive liked some of her songs, but wasn't the biggest fan. However, I believe in giving credit when due, and I must say, I enjoy jammin' to some of the songs on her newest album. "Rude Boy" is my favorite, and when I saw the video yesterday, I was impressed. It's very creative. Bizarre in some areas, but creative. I love the combination of colors, patterns, artwork, etc. The video does not match the song, in my opinion, but it definitely catches your eye.Oh and umm, I want the leggings and hat to the right. So 80's/90's!

Myspace Buys Imeem!
So on Friday night, my girls and I were chillin @ the dorm, drinks in our hands, ready to start dancing. So I was about to go on my imeem account, to bump by dancehall/soca/reggae playlist like we always do during times like those. And to my surprise, they tell me that myspace has bought imeem. So I went on imeem.com, the above image is what I saw, and still see. AHHHHH!! Myspace has bought imeem for 1 million dollars! I see how imeem will benefit from this, as they are struggling financially due to inadequate revenue from ads, but what about ME?! Myspace has yet to migrate my playlist from there, and I'm fiending for my music. I wasn't even done adding all the songs from my playlist to my ipod. Well myspace, you realize that you are losing a number of users due to addictions, facebook and twitter, but #comeonson, hurry up and give me back my playlists!

Alicia Keys' Element of Freedom Review
I heard it! She debuted it exclusively on her facebook page on Monday, and I hurried over there, expecting 30 second clips. I was TOO excited when I realized that instead, the entire length of the songs are available! If I had to describe this album in one world, it would be: BEAUTIFUL. From the intro, you can tell that the songs are going to be powerful with profound lyrics:
And the day came when the risk it took to remain tightly closed in a bud, was more painful than the risk it took to boom. This is the element of freedom. The intro is followed by "Love is Blind", which is one of my favorite songs off the album. The lyrics provoke thoughts about Love and it's tendency to make one dismiss inappropriate actions by the one they love, when they are in so deep. Her voice is clear and flawless in this song, as she sings with so much SOOOOOOUL!
I also love "Wait till you see my smile". The beat and instruments used in the song definitely add to it's excellence. However, what I enjoy most about it is the lyrics. My favorite line:
"So you doing better now, everybody comes around, but you don't really need them cause you're stronger and you're better and you're ready for whatever, saying wait till you see my smile..."
My other favorites are "Unthinkable" and "Love is like the Sea". The album could have done without "Put it in a love song" by Beyonce though, lol. They are both great artists but in my opinion, this song does not do the duet justice.
I also love how she refers to the title of the album "The Element of Freedom" by frequently mentioning flying away, escaping, etc. I can't wait to purchase this album when it hits stores on the 15th. Definitely worth every penny. If you can't wait till the 15th, go listen on her fb page! With all that said, EXCELLENT album. But I expected nothing less from A. Keys....

Artist Spotlight: Kevin Michael
If you are familiar with Kevin Michael's music, then you are already aware of this singer's undeniable talent and potential. His biracial heritage greatly influences his music, which is made overt on my favorite of his songs, "It don't make any difference to me". He employs the genres of r&b, funk, reggae, soul & pop to create music like:

Artist Spotlight: K'naan

New feature on my blog that I've been wanting to do for a while: Artist Spotlight. This feature will highlight musically and/or lyrically talented artists who I believe do not get enough credit and exposure, despite their abilities.
Anyway, the first artist that I've decided to feature is Somalian MC, K'naan. You might or might not have heard of him. Perhaps you have heard his hit, Wavin' Flag. I absolutely love the poetic messages behind his music. Even my husband/favorite reggae artists, Damian Marley is a fan of K'naan, has said good things about him and his music, and has gone on a European tour with him.
Critics have said K'naan has "a sound that fuses Bob Marley, conscious American hip hop, and brilliant protest poetry." His voice and style have been compared to Eminem, but his subject matter is very different; according to K'naan, he makes "urgent music with a message", talking about the situation in his homeland of Somalia and calling for an end to violence and bloodshed. She Works Hard For The Moneyyyy
Hey Lovies,
So the school year just started and guess what- I have a job now! I work on campus basically doing secretary work. It's a chill laid back atmosphere. This is my first job ever, besides babysitting so I feel all grown :) Now when I finish college and that real $$$ start rollin' in, I'll feel superb! lol. Ahhh man, I can already tell this is going to be a busy semester--Between work, classes, and my position as secretary for one of the class I organizations on campus. So I don't know how often I will be updating this blog but I will def. continue doing so! Classes officially start tom-well, today (Sept 2) But I don't have classes on Wednesdays SO FAR. Can you believe that my current major is psychology and I can't enroll in the psych course that I need to because all the classes are full?! I'm planning on talking to my advisor about that.
In other news, who has heard Letoya Luckett's new album, Lady Love? I'm listening to it right now and I'm loving it! Letoya has been my girl ever since "Torn" I love the vibe I get off this album..the whole woman epowerment, know your worth, thing. You go, Letoya!

Million Dollar Bill- Whitney Houston
Finally! I think I've been waiting for this one song from Whitney's album more than the album itself! lol. Simply because it is written by my favorite artist, the lovely Alicia Keys, sung by one of the 2 women who I think posesses one of the most beautiful voices in the game, the legendary, Whitney Houston (the other woman being Celine Dion) and produced by Swizz Beatz Who always has me dancing to his beats. It's called Million Dollar Bill and as expected, I love it! If he makes you feel like a million dollar bill, say it..oh oh oh oh. Check it out! And don't forget to grab her album on August 31st..real music is coming back, y'all!

Nas & Damian Marley: Distant Relatives
I am so excited for this Nas & Damian "Jr Gong" Marley album that is expected to drop in Fall 09! Now you know I have to support my future hubby that is Damian Marley lol. But really, I'm expecting this to be SICK because they are both talented artists: Marley, who takes after his father, the legendary Bob Marley has contributed excellent music to reggae. Nas has definitely proved himself as a talented hip hop artist, selling over 15 million albums worldwide. The two also worked on the single Road to Zion, one of my favorites from Marley's Welcome to Jamrock album. The album will show the relationship between hip hop, reggae, and Africa. Hence the title, Distant Relatives. Nas is gonna need for this one to be a success, seeing that he was ordered to pay ex wife Kelis 44,000 a month in child support. DANGGGGGGGGG!
